Japanese passenger automobile sales continue to fall in February (Shanghai March 13) – A total of 1.11 million passenger automobiles were sold in China last month, the Beijing Youth Daily reported today, citing statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. The amount, which was 35.56 percent less than January's figure and 8.34 percent than last February's, was relatively low due to the week-long Chinese New Year holiday. Despite the overall sales decrease, year-on-year sales growth of German brand vehicles was just under 19 percent. However, Japanese manufacturers' share in the Chinese passenger automobile market continued to fall.

February sales of domestic own brand passenger automobiles totaled 478,000 units, 36 percent less than the previous month's figure and 9.1 percent less than February 2011's figure. Sales of various foreign passenger automobiles were mixed. On one side of the spectrum, German passenger automobiles' year-on-year sales growth was recorded to be a notable 19.9 percent. On the other side, monthly sales of Japanese automobiles decreased over 40 percent from February 2011 to February 2012. Year-on-year sales growth rates of US, Japanese, Korean and French automobiles were recorded to be 12.1 percent, 11.9 percent, 9.5 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively.
